Both Stephanie and I became computer widows because once John and his father got together on the computer they both forgot about time and us both. John would spend many hours messing about on his computer and he gained a very good knowledge of computers and was often helping friends and family and his father when they got into trouble on their computers.
When John started secondary school his life changed for the better as he made many friends, he really enjoyed his school years at Woolwich Poly, he was a member of the school band playing the Clarinet and was quite good at playing it, but on occasions John would let out an ear piercing squeak from his clarinet which was quite funny, the school band played every Christmas in the local church and they were very good, they also went to London and played outside Charing Cross railway station to raise funds for the poly. John also through the school band went off for the week to perform in several concerts he and the rest of the members thoroughly enjoyed their week away. John also joined the after school computer club with some of his friends and they would often play around with the computer network changing things much to the annoyance of their computer teacher Mr Abraham. John was also a keen canoeist, he spent many a happy hour with the school canoeing club, we would often in the summer go and sit and watch him and the other boys going up and down the lake practicing there canoeing skills, a pair of John’s glasses are still at the bottom of the lake where one day he had to roll the canoe into the water, his glasses came off never to be seen again, John was so upset about losing them, but we told him that you can always replace your glasses and that all that mattered was that he was safe.
When John was seventeen he got a part time job in McDonalds he worked there to earn himself some extra money and he like so many before him thought that it was cool to work for this company, he didn’t stay there long when he realised that they paid you a pittance and you had to give them 100% of your time and not get any thanks for doing this.
As John got older he developed a passion for music he was always watching MTV on the telly I don’t know how many times he would call us up to his bedroom to make us sit and watch a music video to the latest chart song, he introduced us to The Prodigy, Faithless, Nirvana, and so many more, he would go through all the music channels and loved so many groups and artists. We would often say to him what is that noise all about and he would always laugh and say to us both “I bet you will hear this song a couple of times and you will really like it” and he would be right and this is so true of Prodigy because when we both saw them for the first time we couldn’t believe what we where seeing (if you are young you will understand what we are on about).
John enjoyed a varied assortment of different kinds of music and like most lads could not wait to get to the pub and meet his friends and later in the evening go off to a night club.
When John was getting ready to go out for the evening it was always a major operation and would take him hours to get ready, he loved gelling his hair and wearing bright loud shirts but once he was finally ready he would look so handsome. We have never known a lad to have so many clothes and shoes. John was a typical teenager his bedroom was like a war zone cloths, shoes, computers and CD’s, left every ware I was constantly tidying up after him, and once he was going out for the evening it was even worse, there would be deodorant cans, aftershave bottles and all manner of things in his room and I would be the typical mother and always moan about the state of his bedroom.
John left home when he was 19 years old and rented a flat which was quite near to us and after a couple of years John met Stephanie his partner, they lived together in London for a short period and then decided to escape from London and move to Margate for a better life and rented a flat for a few years, they then decided to buy a house in Ramsgate.
